Medafor sold the Arista brand hemostatic agent — a revolutionary plant-based blood clotting agent for surgical use. They came to us to with a very quiet request: This is going to be big, and we want to sell. Help us make it happen fast.

Opportunity

Arista needed a brand as unique as the product itself. And to attract a buyer, we needed to demonstrate not only the product potential, but the sales potential. With the tight regulations on advertising and reaching the medical establishment, not to mention the rapidly changing landscape of healthcare procurement, this needed to be a lot more than a simple design job.

Strategy

We started by talking to their distributed and outsourced sales force, and we learned that many of the reps actually created and shared their own promotional tools, we realized that “making” a brand would have been a fruitless effort anyway, because the reps were unlikely to even use it.

Our challenge then became, “How do we build a set of tools that works with each person’s sales style and allows them to be successful, but that is also tightly controlled for FDA and branding purposes?”

The solution was a custom sales app that covered the different presentation and opportunity styles (from trade shows to walk-ins) and had the full breadth of information, but was updated centrally. Added bonus: the app included metrics for management to show who was using the app, when, and what they were using, so efficacy of the tools and messaging could be loosely tied to sales.

A tidy profit for investors in just under 18 months. By keeping the brand tight and centrally-controlled, the image of the company attracted the attention — and the price tag — they were seeking.
